Coaches-Please remember that if you have a class that takes place on a day/time that does not have a checker available, it is the coach’s responsibility to still take attendance. If you are unsure how to take attendance, please ask. Accurate attendance is important when the office makes monthly absence calls and in scheduling make- up classes.

STAFF and EQUIPMENT Monday, January 29th-Thursday, February 1

Equipment drop off 1/26 and pick up 2/1

Reminders from last week:

From Caitlin a little advice on writing a response to a withdrawal – for staff new to doing

Go ahead and write up an email response and send it in to mgmtteam@ so that we can review it before you send it.

You don’t have to use these in every response, just use as you see fit, but a few things to include in withdrawal responses are:

-Always use the child’s name

-Include skills that the child is working on or getting close to

-Mention the option to freeze her account for up to two months

-Offer different programs/class types (tumble/cheer/gymnastics)

-Let them know we’ll process the withdrawal and hope to see them in classes until that date

Cheer and Tumble Curriculum 1.1.24-4.7.24 Cheer and Tumble showoffs will be April 7th 2024 For all videos – I filmed them so you can mirror me and then the kids will be using the correct arms! [If I’m using my right arm, you’re using your left!] SEAT ROLL FOCUS : With tryouts fast approaching, we want to make sure all of the athletes wanting to tryout for full season teams know how to properly do a seat roll. There is a seat roll in dance for this block of curriculum but is slowed down to help them learn to do them. Do seat rolls at least once a month outside of the dance until all athletes can do them with ease Week 1 : Motions, Jumps, Ohana Cheer Dates: 1.1-1.7 ; 1.29-2.4 ; 2.26-3.3 -Motions: High V, T, Low V, Left Punch, Right Punch, Touchdown, Low Touchdown, Right Half High V, Left Half High V, Right Half Low V, Left Half Low V, Broken T, Tabletop, Candlesticks, Clap (focus on c’s and fingers not being linked together), Bow and Arrow (one arm is bent in a broken t and other is in a t), Diagonal (one arm in high v and other arm in low v) Right and Left L (one arm in t and other is in punch) Right and Left K (one arm in high v and other is in low v across body) For Bow and Arrow, Diagonal and L’s – Arm that is in high v or t motion determines what side (right arm in t or high v = right motion) -Jumps: Toe Touches and Pikes. Clapping under the chin and up to steeple approach. If Tiny’s cannot do it 1-2-3-4, use clap 1-2, steeple 3-4, down 5 jump 6. -Ohana Cheer Excite! Ohana Rising to the top A family of champions And we won’t stop Video: https://youtube.com/shorts/nMQu85U3Hko?feature=share Week 2 : Stunts Dates: 1.8-1.14 ; 2.5-2.11 ; 3.4-3.17 (extended : spring break) Knee Stunts: Groups of 3-4 : 1-2 base(s), 1 backspot and 1 flyer: Base(s) start in lunge with back knee up, flyer starts with right foot in and backspot holding onto waist. Base(s) should be grabbing the toe with their front hand and back hand underneath the thigh to help the flyer stand and then wrap back arm around the flyers thigh as they stand up. Backspot should stay on the waist and lift up as well as help with control on the way down. Flyers should start going up to both feet and work their way up to libs or body positions depending on the age/experience. Once basics are mastered, ticks and switch ups can also be worked on. For Tiny’s : If they are struggling to hold stunts on one knee have them sit flat on both knees and flyers stand on both legs instead of in a lunge. • Week 3 : Dance Dates: 1.15-1.21 ; 2.12-2.18 ; 3.18-3.24 Video: https://youtube.com/shorts/Jf9hxqUKYT0?feature=share Music: Text Danni for the music. Dance will start the second 7-8 (2 8 count lead in) right after the “Cause we are sisters” part! Also if your class needs it you can use the app Tempo SlowMo to slow down the music. If you need help, just ask Danni! Week 4 : Mini Routine Dates: 1.22-1.28 ; 2.19-2.25 ; 3.25-4.7 (extended : prepare for showoffs) All Mini Routines need to follow the order below in case we need to combine classes the day of showoffs – we want everyone to be able to show what they’ve learned with the lowest amount of stress! Try to have all formations be windows in no more than 2 lines so every parent has full view of their athlete. Order of routine : 1. Ohana Cheer 2. Jumps – Toe Touch and Pike 3. Tumble Skills – Try to have synchronized with 1-2 groups, but if you have someone who wants to do a more advanced skill they can go by themselves (backwalkovers, handsprings etc) 4. Stunts – Use 1’s and 5’s for stunts to keep this similar across all classes 5. Dance

ALL TEAMS: ATHLETE EVALUATIONS

Coaches passed out Athlete Evaluations at their final practice this last week (12.12-12.14). These come with homework for your athlete to return after break. If you were not present for this practice and/or left it at the gym, you may pick it up from the front office. The gym and office will be fully open on Monday and Tuesday; after that, you can pick it up during camp/clinic times over the break.

This is something that we take the time to do to give extra communication to athletes and parents on their progress so far this season. We do this to help your athlete to improve, to share what coaches see they are excelling in, to give your athlete constructive improvement plan and for your athlete to know what to work on to move forward. All intent is to help your athlete to improve- we want to always be moving forward! Athletes improving means our teams are improving and means our program is improving!

ALL TEAMS: STANDARD UPDATES

Missing practice for illness the week of competition: If your athlete is unable to come to practice due to illness the week of competition; the expectation should be that your athlete will be replaced for that event. This is to ensure team success and to protect the ill athlete. If they are unable to come and partially participate, then we can’t expect them to do a full routine days later. We will ask that any athlete coming to the gym the week of an event that is sick wear a mask to help protect athletes and coaches.

Moving up classifications from season to season: We have been using our Gold Stars to help motivate athletes, to open communication between athletes and to help give families discounts for next season. We are going to start to use these as a measurement of being eligible to move up to the next classification at tryouts next year. Getting a gold star each week is the basic standard for our program and not achieving those does not warrant a move up to the next classification where the standards become more and more important. Reminder on how to get a gold star; be on time, wear the correct practice wear, have strong work ethic, make coach corrections, and have a positive attitude.

ALL STAR: JANUARY 2ND PRACTICE TIMES
