1. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS
MID-SEASON RECAP
As we continue to learn and grow as a program, we are so excited to brainstorm fun new ways to make our acro team flourish in years to come. We are excited to announce we will have more of a full season with more meets offered for our acro teams next season!
With this being our second year to compete, we started our season according to the meet schedule last year, where our first meet of the season was in March. In September, the meet season got pushed up several months, with our hosted meet being in December. We are so proud of your kiddos for coming together as true teams in such a short time period, and putting out amazing first performances! Now, we look forward to putting some final touches on the routines to really make them shine at state!
FIRST MEET RECAP
We are so incredibly proud of both teams and what they put out on the mat at many of their first acro meets! As a new program, we received several compliments from other gyms to our teams’ sportsmanship, abilities, and performances! Some of the athletes and teams that we compete against have been in their current level with their teammates for a full season (or more) and with a majority of our teams new to the sport, they have shown how competitive we can become in this sport! Main areas for improvement:
-Timing and sturdiness of all skills! We should look robotic and in unison finishing every single piece of our skills—this is something we will continue to work on throughout the next couple of weeks! *ROCKETTES:
-FIRST PLACE TOSS COMPULSORY—WAY TO GO!!! -2nd place Pyramid Compulsory (by .13—very close!!) -3rd place Trio (.03 behind 2nd, .07 behind 1st—extremely close division!)- Routine: 2nd place (.9 behind first—fixing the timing issues in punk invert and tosses get us right there!) -PLEASE TAKE NOTE!!! The first-place team in this division recently switched into the “Youth-Bonus” division. With only a couple of weeks before our meet, the league allowed them to compete in the Youth-Non-Bonus division (our division) so that they wouldn’t have to change their routines and we wouldn’t have to purchase new banners for the new division. The Bonus team was only awarded the “bonus” points for what would be allowed in a non-bonus division so that the scores would end up being fair. At future meets, the other team will be in the bonus division. Had we had prior notification, we would have happily bought new banners for them to be in the right division if asked, and our team would have gotten first place Youth team—but all of this to say we are SO proud of your kiddos! They were neck and neck with a bonus team at their first ever meet!
FIRECRACKERS:
-2nd Place Pyramid Compulsory (by .4—so close!) -2nd Place Toss Compulsory-2nd Place Trio (by .04—RIGHT THERE!!!) -3rd place tumbling Compulsory (.73 between 1st and 3rd place—very close division!) *Watching this group come together as a team has been so fulfilling as coaches to watch! We started this season with the expectation of having an “exhibition” mini team that would not compete, but learn a routine and work the basics of A&T. Your kiddos blew us away at tryouts and changed our plans, and we couldn’t be happier to have this group of young athletes on the floor as our first Mini Acro team! *With this group, we decided as coaches to keep basket tosses out of their routine for the first meet. While we knew that this would potentially put us out of the running for the routine or overall 1st place title, this decision was made from a safety standpoint. Your children’s safety is always more important to us than a banner. We do plan to work these skills and add them into our routine moving forward into the state meet! *They have grown so much as athletes—going from ground stunts to two and a half high pyramids, throwing basket tosses, and learning five different routines. The growth individually and as a whole is something you don’t see every day as coaches!
